"Why are the ghost spirits in such a hurry? Where are they going?"
—Spirit Trials Moki, Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Spirit Trials are a new gameplay mechanic found in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Overview[edit | edit source]
A pseudo-multiplayer where you can race against the ghosts of other players to see if you can beat their records. The reward is Spirit Light.
Active abilities can not be used to prevent cheating. However, Ori can still use their equipped spirit shards.
When the player is racing offline, they will race against one spirit, only receiving the spirit light if they surpass the spirit or beat their recorded time. This will yield 1000 spirit light. After beating the spirit, they no longer can be raced against, so the player would have to race with themselves or race with the recorded times of other players, which requires the player to be online.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps[edit | edit source]
The spirit trials are hinted at at the start of the game by a Moki, stating that they have seen the ghosts of spirits. Ori is given a rumor and can later find the spirit trials by the rumor.
There are 8 spirit trials in total, them being:
- the Wellspring spirit trial
- Mouldwood Depths spirit trial
- Luma Pools spirit trial
- Windswept Wastes spirit trial
- Inkwater Marsh spirit trial
- Kwolok's Hollow spirit trial
- Silent Woods spirit trial
- Baur's Reach spirit trial
In addition to the spirit trials, players can now also race escape sequences or boss fights.
