'"There was only ever the darkness, and mother. The brightness scares us a little. Were you scared of our dark, too?"'
—Spiderling after defeating Mora

Spiderlings, also known as Scuttlers[1], are a type of enemy from the species spider in Ori and the Will of the Wisps. They are the offspring of the spider Mora. They can be found in Mouldwood Depths and Wellspring Glades.

Description[]

Spiderlings are black spiders with eight green eyes. They range in size from half as tall as Ori to as tall as Ori.

Overview[]

Spiderlings can be found in Mouldwood Depths, and later Wellspring Glades.

At first, Ori encounters them as enemies, then as allies after freeing their mother from the Decay. Initially, they seem aggressive, but later on in the game it is revealed that the spiderlings are in fact quite timid and have a rather innocent personality.

Spiders generally prefer dark, damp areas, disliking too much light or heat, at times even outright fearing them. They are shown to have a close bond with their mother, Mora, even fighting at her command at times such as the boss fight between her and Ori.

Behavior[]

Spiderlings will actively patrol the piece of land they are in, only stopping when they encounter spikes or other hazards. They can sense Ori from a half screen away and climb on walls and even the ceiling, along with having extra speed compared with that of other enemies, making them more deadly in comparison.

Upon sensing Ori, Spiderlings will pursue them relentlessly, only stopping at hazards or Ori's death or if beaten back. They deal one life cell of damage per second of contact with Ori.

Spiderlings can be bashed and will be taken out of combat upon contact with any sort of hazard such as spikes or water. They can also be beaten by another enemy's projectiles.

Spiderlings drop 5-10 spirit light upon defeat.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps[]

Spiderlings are the offspring of Mora. They were born in Mouldwood Woods, where they lived with the mold and darkness. As a result, most of them have never seen the surface. This caused them to develop a fear for light. When the light in the Willow shattered, leaving the land to Decay, the Decay came to Mouldwood Depths and corrupted Mora, the Spiderlings' mother. This frightened the spiderlings, who later told Ori of their fear.

Ori defeats Mora in combat while searching for the Eyes of the Forest, freeing her from the Decay. The spiderings thank Ori for freeing their mother, and venture out from the Depths into the open, with some spiderlings even making the Wellspring Glades their home.
